The mission of the Children and Youth Program is to protect, care for and support children and youth, especially for children of military families concerning their health and well-being.
The following are a few suggestions that we all can do to support this program:
1. “Good Deed” and “Youth Hero” awards. Forms are available on the website or contact me.
2. Continue to promote and encourage our youth to participate in the “Americanism Essay Contest”.
Units and “Children and Youth” chairmen may want to consider the following for this program:
Do a presentation on the “Military Children’s Table”
Support community Girl and Boy Scout programs
Promote and encourage students to participate in the American Legion “Oratorial” contest
Promote the Junior Activities program
Sponsor events for the following:
Valentine’s Day (juniors can send cards to veteran’s and active duty personnel)
Encourage scouting troops to participate in Flag Day ceremonies
March in parades with Senior members
Have a community Halloween party, Christmas Pancake Breakfast with Santa or or a Easter egg hunt for kids
April is Children and Youth month so encourage your unit to promote this program.

There are so many ways we can be a part of our local commmunities. Some great ideas are shared in this private ALA Community Service Group
www.facebook.com/groups/ALACommunityService/
Another great way to be a part of local community is to join and/or build relations with Chamber of Commerce and Downtown Development organizations. They can be valuable assests that get our organization in front of the local public. Set up tables at their events.

It's time to think about what has not worked well in our units. The place to ensure there are no misunderstandings and that all know precisely what is allowed, not allowed and must be performed and when, is within the unit's Standing Rules. Ask all members to review and make suggestions on what should be brought to membership vote or changes in this document.
Be sure to send me a copy for our District records. This enables us to answer member questions when they escalate to us.

Junior Activities Report
September 15, 2024
The 2024-25 Program Guide for Junior Activities is available to download and print from the Department of Michigan website, www.mialaux.org
The mission statement states the purpose of this committee is to “promote volunteerism and principles of the American Legion Auxiliary. This is accomplished by participation in various programs and services that are community-based and involve veterans. Junior members are taught the principles of loyalty to God and Country, Justice, Freedom and Democracy with guidance from the American Legion Family.”
The 2024-25 Honorary Junior President is Abbie Jones. Each year the Honorary Jr. President chooses a special project. Abbie’s project is Mid- Michigan Honor Flight, www.midmichiganhonorflight.org Why not consider encouraging your Junior members having a bake sale or other fundraiser at one of the Unit or Post meetings or events to raise money for this cause?

Leadership is important if we are to have a strong organization. There are opportunities for training .
It's an excellent time to take the ALA101 basics course, which is available at ALA Academy That's what I encourage all ALA members to do as a first step. Then look at the other training available on this national site.
And of course you can always contact me for advice.

Consider how the unit can assist our troops. One way is to send troop boxes. Consider sending medical items such as balms, chapstick, bandages as well as other items such as candy, jerky, socks, books/DVDs etc.
Also, assist all first responders.
And hold blood drives, and safety events. Refer to the National Security Plan off Action (Program Guide) found on Department's website
Michigan American Legion Auxiliary Programs
If current guides are not posted yet, use the last ones posted.
Whoo Hoo We had a 6th District Unit Awarded the Best National Security Program for 2022-2023 see a copy of this award winning report in the report examples found in the "End of Year Reporting"

The mission of the Past President Parley committee is to use the knowledge and experience of past auxiliary leaders.
PAST PRESIDENT PARLEY
6TH DISTRICT REPORT
JANUARY 19, 2025
A reminder that the Past President Parley committee is a program aimed to use the knowledge and experience of past auxiliary leaders who will encourage and train future auxiliary leaders for our organization.
Encourage your past unit presidents to contribute to the Past President Parley by sharing their knowledge and to help organize new units. Keep them active by having these leaders share their wisdom and ideas from their past experiences!
Be sure to check the Past President Parley guide for the Department Award.
(Trudy Anderson Memorial Citation)
This report for the award is due to the 6th District Past President Parley chairman by March 30, 2025.
I did not receive any mid-year reports from units in the 6th District.
Consider naming a Member of the Year for your auxiliary. Then send a report on them to me to be entered as Unit Member of the Year for the Department.

Public Relations Report
January 19, 2025
We are halfway through this Auxiliary reporting year. Is your Unit letting the community know the events and programs you are doing for the benefit of Veterans, Military and Community?
Use the local media, social media and newsletters (by email or print) to let everyone know. There may be some of your inactive members that would like to know and would return to being active when seeing the great work being done.
The 2024-25 Program Guide is available to download from the Department of Michigan website, www.mialaux.org This guide has the information you need to get started and also how to achieve Unit & National awards. Reporting begins in March.

VA&R is so critical to our purpose, we should have a project nearly every month.
We are fast approaching the Valentine, St. Patricks and Easter holidays. Work with other organizations to find a way to help local veterans.
In Genesee, Livingston and Ingham counties of Michigan you should build relationships with the Genesee County Veterans Services Genesee County Department of Veterans Services , the Livingston County Veterans Services Veteran Services - Livingston County, MI and the Ingham County Veterans Services Ingham County Department of Veteran s Affairs . They have veterans that you can assist. And they have the capability to get your veterans assistance through both the Michigan VA and the United States VA.
Some Resources are for Auxiliary and Member use only. Instruction are on Home Page for how to obtain access.
American Legion Family Emblems can only be used under strict permission of the American Legion Family as written the ALA Branding Guide.
